What is:

Branded as Follistim® in the United States and as Puregon® throughout the rest of the world by Organon.
Follitropin Beta is a gonadotrophin hormone and consists of highly purified rFSH (recombinant follicle stimulating hormone) with neither urinary proteins nor LH (lutenising hormone). Since it is very pure, Follitropin Beta may be administered subcutaneously (just below the skin).
Follitropin Beta is used to treat fertility problems. It is used in combination with another hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) to stimulate the ovaries in women or used alone to stimulate sperm production in men, depending on the type of fertility problem being treated by your doctor.

Side effect:

Dizziness, fever, chills; redness, swelling, itching, or pain at the injection site; nausea, headache, breast tenderness, vaginal breakthrough bleeding in women, or acne or tiredness in men may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: bloating, muscle pain, joint pain, swelling or pain in the arms or legs, stomach pain, unusual weight gain for women, breast pain or swelling in men. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusually fast heartbeat, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.

Storage:

The product may be stored by the patient at 2-8° C (36-46° F) until the expiration date, or at 25° C (77° F) for 3 months, or until the expiration date, whichever occurs first. Once the rubber inlay of a cartridge is pierced by a needle, the product may be stored for a maximum of 28 days. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
