    What is:

Branded as Utrogestan® by Besins Healthcare, and as Prometrium® by Solvay.

Utrogestan is prescribed for postmenopausal women who are taking estrogen (hormone replacement therapy); it prevents a buildup of the lining of the uterus and abnormal bleeding. Utrogestan also may be prescribed to restore menstruation if your menstrual periods have stopped.

    Side effect:

This medicine may make you feel tired or dizzy.
You may notice changes in your menstrual flow or bleeding at times other than the withdrawal bleed. Your doctor may make changes to the way you take UTROGESTAN Capsules if this happens.
You may feel sick, have an upset or bloated stomach, gain or lose weight or have swollen ankles. You may notice changes in your breasts or they may become tender. You may develop a rash or other changes in your skin such as acne or urticaria. You may develop leg or pelvic vein thrombosis. You may notice changes in genital secretions or a change in libido (interest in sex). You may have a raised temperature, depression, pre-menstrual type symptoms or difficulty in sleeping. You may lose hair, or notice an increase in hair growth. If you notice a yellowing of the skin (due to jaundice)
whilst taking UTROGESTAN Capsules, stop taking
the capsules and see your doctor. If you experience any of these side-effects and they
persist or become troublesome consult your doctor. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any unwanted effects that are not listed here.

    Storage:

The capsules should not be used after the expiry date that is printed on the packaging. Store in the original blister pack and in the original outer carton. The capsules are stable over a wide range of temperatures and therefore no special storage conditions are necessary. Keep the capsules out of the reach and sight of children.
